1. Early origin and exploration

1766 - A design for a bicycle is found in Da Vinci's manuscript, which is seen as an early prototype of the bicycle concept.
1790: French Siflac invented the most original bicycle, the bicycle has only two wheels and no transmission device, people need to ride on the ground with two feet to drive forward rolling. This is the beginning of the development of the bicycle.
1817: German Derleth put handlebars on the bicycle to make it change the direction of travel, which is generally considered to be the prototype of the modern bicycle.
Second, key development and innovation
1839: Scottish Macmillan made wooden wheels, and installed pedals and cranks, to achieve the feet off the ground riding.
1842: Macmillan rides an improved bicycle and runs nearly 20 kilometers in a day, marking a major breakthrough in the utility and performance of bicycles.
1867: The bicycle improved by Michaud and his son in France was exhibited at the Paris Exposition, causing a sensation and once set off the bicycle craze.
1869: The British Renault made important improvements to the bicycle, such as the use of steel pipe frames and solid rubber tires.
1874: The British Lawson to the bicycle with a chain, the real modern form of the bicycle was born.
1886: British mechanical engineer Starley made a comprehensive improvement on the bicycle, installing the front fork and brake, using roller bearings, the front and rear wheels of the same size to maintain balance, and made a diamond frame with steel pipe, and also the first use of rubber wheels. These improvements made the bike more stable, comfortable and efficient, and Starley became known as the "father of the bicycle".
1887: The British Lawson completed the design of the chain drive bicycle, the same year the British Dunloop developed pneumatic tires, which further improved the performance and comfort of the bicycle.

Dissemination and development in China

Qing Dynasty: In 1868, several bicycles were first shipped to Shanghai from Europe and became luxury toys for the rich and foreigners. Later, bicycles gradually spread in China.
From the end of the 19th century to the beginning of the 20th century, bicycles were gradually popularized in China. In 1897, China's first bicycle business - Tongchang bicycle company was born (that is, Phoenix brand bicycle predecessor), specializing in bicycles and spare parts. In 1940, the domestic Shanghai Bicycle Factory was established (that is, the predecessor of the Yongjiu brand bicycle), marking the start of China's bicycle manufacturing industry.
Modern development: Since the second half of the 20th century, bicycles in China have experienced a process from luxury goods to popular goods, and then diversified development. With the improvement of living standards and the diversification of transportation modes, bicycles have gradually changed from a means of transportation to a choice for fitness, leisure and environmentally friendly travel. In recent years, the rise of shared bicycles has reinvigorated bicycles.
